How does costing work?

One of the challenges of implementing a costing feature is dealing with price changes. If prices are entered manually, too much time will be spent updating prices in the system. Enter our solution!

We can automatically update prices by linking ingredients in ClassCart to supermarket ingredient pages. This way, when the price changes, ClassCart can update it automatically.

How to enable pricing

Here's how you can enable pricing for new or existing ingredients.

New Ingredient

When creating a new ingredient, you can choose to create it manually or from a link. Select "From Link" and then enter a link from a supported website.

ClassCart will then fetch the ingredient's price information along with other information such as the ingredient's name and image.

Existing Ingredient

To add pricing to an existing ingredient, open the ingredient on the inventory page and click "Add A Link". You can then enter a link from a supported website and confirm the link.

Updating Ingredient Prices

Ingredient prices are initially fetched when an ingredient is given a link and are not updated until a later time of your choosing. You can update ingredient prices from the inventory page by clicking the "$" button.

When this button is clicked, ClassCart will then check all ingredient links to determine whether costs have changed and update prices accordingly

Price History

When an ingredient's price changes, past prices will remain stored in ClassCart so that you will be able to see a price history of each ingredient.

Costing

If some ingredients in your school have pricing enabled, you will be able to see costing for each ingredient - as well as total costing - on summary pages:

You will also be able to see costings for the ordered recipes:

Supported Websites

The costing feature currently supports the following websites:

We hope to add support for more websites in the future.
